chasing fairies across grassy fields
I've longed for you
I've been away
offering myself to fire breathing dragons
stumbling in front of oncoming trains
my body is worn
my heart is ragged
I've forgotten how to play
I've forgotten how to love
But an ember of nostalgia glows within
It's my memory of you ...
traversing creeks with rolled up trousers
giggling at kittens tumbling on sidewalks
shooting down monsters with pointed fingers
playing hide and seek against dauntless foes
I lost you when I threw away that magic wand
from which fairy dust sprinkled
that path where I skipped
the day I was touched by ugly hands
robbing my very illusion of life
Sometimes I feel like I've had had enough
Sometimes I medicate myself too much
But a giggle inside beckons to me
... come out to play ... come out to play
the ember gets stoked
from the core of my soul
I long for the playmate
that once was myself
the goodness, the strength, the health of that sweet one
perfect, but for being a hostage to life ...
You and I, child, we will slay dragons together
united we'll play our troubles away
gather friendships and kisses
and fairy dust roadways
stub our toes on rubies and emeralds
wrestle with soft puppy dos
what a team we will make
My child and I ...
I with my bigness and you with your heart
monsters we'll trample
on our way to the stars
grasping kind hands that once seemed
so far out of our reach ....
